(PS) GOLF: Maffra and Sale Golf Club ladies did battle in the annual Sale / Maffra Challenge last week, this time played at the Maffra Golf club. After holding the shield for the past five years, it was time to hand it over to Maffra. (PS) PONY CLUB: The International Pony Club Tetrathlon Exchange recently concluded and the East Gippsland Zone of Pony Club’s was proudly represented by Darcy Wade as the selected coach of the Australian girls and boys teams. Having represented Pony Club Australia as an athlete on two previous exchanges in Ireland and USA he had a wealth of experience to impart to the athletes. (PS) GOLF: Bairnsdale Golf Bowls Club last Sunday hosted the Gippsland Sports Academy for a training session along side the boys scholarship program and the club’s AGF girls program. Richard Cooney, Travis Harrison and Matt Portelli were on hand to coach and mentor. (PS) CRICKET: The Sale Maffra Cricket Association will host a lower grade umpire development night at the Bundalaguah Oval on September 7 from 6.30pm. It’s a chance to learn the basics and gain some added confidence. (PS) GOLF: Sale Golf Club member Robert Walker last week shot a one under par 71 to win the seniors event held at Sanctuary Lakes. (PS) CRICKET: Paynesville Cricket Club is excited to welcome Harrison Savage to the Gulls for season 2026/27. Savage comes across from Bundalaguah Cricket Club in the Sale-Maffra Cricket Association, where he’s made some big runs at the top of the order opening the batting. (PS) FOOTBALL: After not having an under 18 team in 2026, Sale Football Netball Club are on the task early for 2027, appointing Clayton Kelly as the coach for next year. Kelly is passionate about developing juniors into the next generation of Sale Football Club senior footballers. His focus goes beyond what happens on the football field. It’s about developing young men who are disciplined, respectful, accountable and willing to learn players who are coachable and ready for the challenges of senior football. (PS) BASKETBALL: An extraordinary performance by Ben Swarsbrick saw him score 62 points in a men’s “B” division match last week. (PS) TENNIS: Sale Tennis Club has claimed bragging rights over Drouin after winning the clubs’ inaugural inter-club tennis challenge recently. Sixteen juniors from each club competed in two singles and two doubles matches, while the senior competition featured doubles and selected singles. Sale will now look to defend the shield when the clubs meet again in Drouin next year.
