For Michael, who has an aboveknee amputation and is a keen competitive croquet player, the championship is the result of determination, advanced prosthetic technology and a clinical approach focused on helping people return to the activities that matter most. Receiving ongoing care through Ortho Advantage's Gippsland service, with clinics in Traralgon, Inverloch and Fish Creek, Michael said his new prosthesis has significantly improved his confidence, balance and mobility, both on and off the croquet lawn. Rather than relying solely on clinic appointments, prosthetist Amelia worked alongside Michael in real playing conditions, attending croquet sessions to observe his movement and fine-tune the prosthesis to suit the demands of the sport. "Seeing the movement required in real-life situations gives me a much better understanding of how I need to fine-tune the leg," Amelia said. "It's about understanding how each person lives, what they enjoy doing and making sure their prosthesis helps them achieve those goals." The personalised approach has delivered immediate benefits for Michael, who reports smoother movement, improved balance, fewer falls and greater confidence while competing. Amelia said advances in prosthetic technology are creating new opportunities for people living with limb loss across Gippsland. "The technology in today's prosthetic knee units has come so far. They provide greater stability and adaptability, allowing amputees to enjoy more of what Gippsland has to offer, whether that's walking on uneven bush tracks, working around farms or taking part in water-based recreation," she said.
